In honor of the season of gratitude, we recognize how much Oregon Hill neighbors give and care for one another. This is a simple way to say thanks and to shine light on all the good coming from our little part of the city.
Tributes from Phaedra Hise:
Peter Barrett, a temporary neighbor staying around Pleasants Park. Without being asked, or being a member of OHNA, Peter regularly weeds the park flower beds and even trims the grass around the edges. He says he just likes to be helpful, and I really appreciate this generosity of spirit.
After the road repavers broke off a bunch of tree limbs, Ashley Gremel took it upon herself to walk the streets with loppers to cut up and stack the branches in tree wells. I’m sure other neighbors did the same, but Ashley is who I saw spending most of a day covering a lot of my end of OH.
I’m also grateful for Stephenie Harrington always finding ways for Dominion to contribute to OH projects! Not only the many cleanups she organizes and runs on her own, but this year adding the pollinator garden around the beehives was a big project she made happen.
Last one is my husband, Eric Lindquist. We have a disabled neighbor, and Eric maintains their back and front yard with regular weed trimming, sidewalk scraping and snow shoveling. Nobody asked him to do this, he just saw the need and quietly did the work.
Tributes from Mariah Huffman:
Thank you to Wayne Chan for offering so quickly to help with our broken fence when I posted about it on the Facebook group.
Thank you to Susan, Bryan, and John for putting on such a fun block party.
Thank you, Harrison and Phaedra, for all their hard work on our parks and the upcoming community garden.
Thank you to Phil Turner and the Pine St Baptist congregation for giving so much back to the neighborhood all the time!
Thank you to Charles Pool for being so welcoming to Mike and I and for filling us in on interesting neighborhood history.
And thank you as well to Tom Wise and his family for being so welcoming to us.
